MEET THE THERAPIST
Hello! I’m Rebecca, and The Zen Den is my little massage business based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. I came to massage therapy three years ago, via the world of acting. An actor’s body is their instrument and just like any musician, you need to take time to warm up and occasionally tune that instrument. As actors, we want to rid our bodies of any unnecessary tension in order to be as open, relaxed, and ready to receive as possible. I think that’s a sentiment that transfers very nicely into real life, too! Whether or not you’re a performer, my aim is to help you find space and relaxation in your body so that you can be as comfortable in it as possible rather than inhibited by blockages, pain and tension. In other words, so that you’re ready and open to receive.
In 2016 I qualified in bodywork with Michael Gibbons at the College of Classical Massage, Brighton, going on to gain diplomas in deep tissue massage and onsite chair massage. In 2018 I returned to the College of Classical Massage to qualify in Structural Rebalancing; a unique combination of bodywork techniques that help bring the body back to its natural alignment. I really love this work and witnessing the change in my clients’ bodies and overall wellbeing as their conditions improve with regular treatments.
I often receive feedback that the massage techniques I use are “unique” and I credit this to my training with Michael Gibbons, who has over 25 years’ experience in a vast array of bodywork disciplines and has passed on the “best” ones to his students! My style is a mash-up of many different styles of massage, so I simply call it ‘bodywork’.
Drawing on techniques from a range of bodywork disciplines including deep tissue, classic Swedish massage and structural rebalancing, I work with you holistically to release tension, iron out tight muscles and make space in the body. Whether you’re coming for a treatment with the aim of relaxation, recovering from injury or need help releasing specific areas of tension, I’ll work with you to put together a treatment that leaves you feeling loose, relaxed and realigned.
